A unique opportunity to take part in a competition for the Welland Central Fire Hall
As the videographer tasked with capturing the essence of the Welland Central Fire Station for the Next Great Save competition, I feel incredibly fortunate to have contributed to this significant initiative. The Central Fire Station, an Edwardian classical-style gem from the 1920s, is not just a building; it's a piece of our collective history that stands proudly at the corner of Division Street and Hellems Avenue in Welland.
Being behind the camera, I had the unique opportunity to work closely with the Central Station Education Initiative (CSEI) and its passionate volunteers. Together, we've crafted a video that highlights not only the architectural beauty and historical significance of the fire station but also its potential to serve as a vibrant community space.
The fire station is among 12 finalists in this national competition organized by the National Trust for Canada, which could award up to $65,000 to help restore and protect historic sites across the country. The competition is stiff, with entries ranging from theatres to lighthouses, each with its own compelling story and community significance.
I'm calling on everyone to visit the Next Great Save page and vote EVERYDAY for the Welland Central Fire Station, starting April 18th. You can cast your vote daily until May 6th. Your support could help transform this historic building into a resource for not-for-profits, small businesses, and artisans, contributing to the cultural and economic revitalization of downtown Welland.
